Whately, MA | 2018

The Whately Town Hall is a historic meeting house that has served as the center of Whately for more than 150 years. For seven years Jones Whitsett Architects supported the small community of Whately in its efforts to plan for the restoration of Town Hall.

Renovation challenges include restoration of second floor windows, preservation and outfitting of a historic stage, adding structural supports for the second floor assembly space, addition of an accessible entry and elevator and selection of efficient plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems to replace outdated systems without distracting from the historic features of the building.

The project was supported by Massachusetts Historical Commission and funded by a grant from the Whately Community Preservation Commission and Green Communities Fund. The Whately Town Hall now functions as a community center and a home for the Whately Historical Society.
