Northampton Community & Resilience Hub

The City of Northampton seeks to establish a Community Resilience Hub (HUB) to support Northampton residents who face chronic and acute stress due to climate change, and social and economic crisis. Jones Whitsett Architects was hired to help determine the space needs for the proposed HUB, facilitate a planning process, and assess possible locations while working with the City’s Department of Planning and Sustainability.

JWA engaged a working group of city staff and representatives of social service organizations serving vulnerable populations in regular virtual meetings, visited local facilities that could be considered precedents for the HUB, conducted one-on-one interviews, and leveraged digital tools to create a productive dialogue between key stakeholders. The documented project is available on the City of Northampton’s website (https://www.northamptonma.gov/2166/Community-Resilience-Hub).

In December 2022 the City signed an offer to purchase the historic First Baptist Church building at the corner of Main and West Street to serve as the new Community Resilience Hub. JWA continues to support the City’s efforts to complete this important project.
